About Us
William Rutter Motor Services was established in 1985 in Brunel Road, Bedford. Bill started out as a ‘one man band’, and soon after was joined by now foreman Ian Jones. We expanded into our current premises in Hammond Road in 1988. Bill and Ian started out as Ford trained technicians and over the years have gained vast experience and knowledge of most makes of cars. We also went on to become an MOT test station in 1992. We have built up the business by word of mouth recommendations, in fact many people are probably unaware we are tucked away in Hammond Road! We never advertise!
Alongside Bill and Ian we have two more technicians; Daniel Bean & Jake Betts. Daniel joined us as an apprentice in 2001; he is a very valuable member of our team with over 14 years experience under his belt. Jake joined our team in January 2015, after completing his training at another local garage and is a valuable asset, fast gaining knowledge and a wealth of experience in our very busy workshop. Daniel, Bill & Jake all undertake diagnostic work and have all trained in Snap on Diagnostics.
Family Business
The business became a family ‘affair’ when Bill’s sister Helen Durrant joined the company part time in 1999 and then full time in 2001. Helen runs the office alongside colleague Sharon Bell (talking of family, Sharon also happens to be Mum to Jake!), together they run the administration side of the business.
We are part of the Group Auto independent garage network scheme called Auto Care. Alongside Auto Care, we are subscribed to the RMI (Retail Motor Industry Federation) and their Trust My Garage scheme, Approved Garages.co.uk, Motor Codes, Chartered Trading Standards Institute approved codes of practice (CTSI).
